Sandi Saltzman is a Reading Specialist who can motivate your child to love to read & write by matching their interest with their current reading level. Sandi's instruction is targeted at building the skills & strategies they need to read more challenging books & to write insightful responses to what they’ve read.
With over 25 years experience, Sandi has served struggling & reluctant readers & writers in grades K-5.
Sandi specializes in programs involving phonics, syllabication, spelling, written expression, reading comprehension, oral fluency, vocabulary development, and fosters a life long love for reading and writing. She teaches children from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, to maximize their full potential as readers and writers. She uses a variety of skills, techniques and programs to create individualized lessons that accelerate student learning.

Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a reading and writing program to accelerate the most struggling First graders.
Reading Recovery involves intensive one-to-one lessons. Lessons are designed specifically to meet the needs of each child. The goal is for the child to meet the benchmarks for First grade reading and writing by the end of the school year.
Fundations
Fundations is a letter/sound & letter/formation program for Kindergarteners.The program provides children of different learning abilities with a foundation for reading and spelling.
It is a multi sensory language program that utilizes tapping, sky writing, letter boards, dry erase boards, hand movements, and specific coding activities to support students in both decoding and encoding words.
Wilson Reading Program
The Wilson Program is multi sensory and uses visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile activities to teach clusters of sounds and the rules of syllabication.
The Wilson Program is a highly structured program with lots of repetition and practice. It’s for students who really struggle with the phonetic piece of reading and spelling, as well as for students diagnosed with Dyslexia. The best results are achieved when lessons are at least 3 times per week.
Fountas & Pinnell
Fountas & Pinnell is a leveled reading program for readers K-5. The program matches books to the reading level of the student.
The program is designed to provide opportunities for students to apply newly acquired skills during the act of reading, on books where they will experience a high level of success.
Columbia Workshops
An approach to studying author styles across all genres as per Columbia Teachers College, to help children become avid and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers.
The workshops are grounded in research on evidenced-based teaching. Students are exposed to author’s craft, learning how to incorporate these styles and techniques into their own writing . They begin to read like a writer and write for a reader.
Accelerated Learning
Individualized tutoring, distinguished by Sandi's 25+ years of experience, skills and licensed training, can help students reach their full potential .
Programs involve phonics, syllabication, spelling, written expression, reading comprehension, oral fluency, vocabulary development, as well as matching the readers ability to motivating books that build success and confidence.
About Sandi
Sandi Saltzman has been teaching Reading, Writing and related skills for over 25 years. She started her career building a private after-school tutoring business out of her home when her children were young. This private practice grew, and Sandi built 3 classrooms in her basement and employed and managed three Reading Specialists to help with the demand. The practice lasted 10 years.
When Sandi's youngest child went to Kindergarten, she was hired as a Reading Specialist for Great Neck Public Schools. After many years, Sandi began her long tenure at the Bethpage Public Schools, where she retired in June of 2019.
Sandi has since moved to the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where she has gone back to her roots of private tutoring.

If anyone needs a reading specialist this summer I would like to recommend Sandi Saltzman. She has been a reading specialist for 25 years (we want her only for ourselves but realize it would be a disservice to other kids that can benefit from her services). She started with my oldest son last summer and has worked wonders with him and his self-confidence in reading. It takes a special tutor to get through to my oldest and with her vast experience she can. She recently started with my twins and they love learning from her.
